Do HD video camcorders come with audio and if so how far away until the camcorder doesn’t pick up the audio?
Yes, HD video cameras come with built-in microphones, but distance is not a factor.
I’m assuming you’re talking about a person speaking, and if this is important to you, you should purchase a used lavalier microphone (wired or wireless) from Ebay.
If you are doing run-and-gun reality type shooting you’ll need an on-camera shotgun. No camera has great audio out of the box, but some do have decent audio, like the Panasonic HVX-200
