Sony DCR-SR35 unable to pause recording?

This is the product: http://www.sony.co.uk/product/sdh-hard-disk-drive/dcr-sr35e
Hello, i just borrowed this sony handicam off a friend and i was just testing it. Found out everything about this HDD camera apart from the part that there is no pause button??
There is a start/stop button and every other button which i have seen on handycams but how can it not have a pause button?
I checked on the internet, read the user manual but to no avail. can somebody tell me why this is so?
Is it that this range of camcorders dont have a pause option? I cant believe it as every videocam i have seen(even phones) have a pause option. Thanks for any help at all,
Supposedly, all the information is up on the sony website. i even downloaded a user manual to see if i can f
*find any information. Can someone tell me why there isnt a Pause button.

There is no pause button because it is unnecessary. Start/stop recording = a digital video file. If you want to tie the files together to one big file, import the video files to a video editor on your computer and use the transitions (crossfades, cuts, whatever), then export the finished product as one big file.

You can’t find a pause button on the camcorder or in the manual because there is none. Some low-end, digital still cameras that happen to capture low-quality, highly compressed, video have a pause button – many do not; some pocket camcorders that capture similar highly compressed video have a pause button when recording. “Real” camcorders do not – at least not now… Not tape based, not hard disc drive based, not flash memory based. Since no one should ever waste their money on a DVD camcorder, the only thing I’ll say is that they don’t have a pause button, either.

That said, if you read through the DCR-SR-35′s manual, you will see there is an editing function available. I do not recommend doing this, but using this so-called feature in the camcorder allows you to edit and do transitions and all that in the camcorder – making a “pause button”even more unnecesary – and redundant.

If you have copied the video to your computer over the USB connection and cannot get your computer’s video editor to deal with the video files (mpg, I think) that camcorder produces, you need to know that the files need to be converted – transcoded – first. MPEG StreamClip

is the one I use – there are lots of others out there. Windows MovieMaker likes WMV files; Apple iMovie likes MOV and MP4 files – among others. After the files are converted, quit the transcoder and lauch the video editor – and drag the converted files to the capture area of the video editor – and edit.
