Sony Movie Camcorders
I have a question about macs and camcorders?
Im shooting a movie for a project on a Sony dcr-dvd610 and it uses a 8mm dvd to record the videos on. There is not a way to put that small of a disc in the macs so i was going to put it into the Microsoft computer that my parents have and copy the videos onto a usb and then transfers those photos onto my macbook. But it did not work ahhhhh im lost can anyone help me i really need those videos off that dvd on my macbook so i can use imovie to make my movie!! PLEASE HELP

If you want the video directly in the Mac, you will need a DVD drive that is a drawer-loader. I like those from LaCie. You are smart not to put the small 8cm disc in the slot loader – that can break the drive and scratch the disc…
OR
If the Windows computer has a drawer loading optical (DVD) drive…
You want to rip the video from the disc with a DVD ripper – I like HandBrake.

There is a version for Windows and a version for Macintosh.
Rip the video to a format that the video editor likes. Since you want to edit in in the Mac, iMovie can deal with MOV or MP4 files (among others). If you ripped the video in the Windows computer, then copy the ripped file to the Mac (with a USB drive or some other transfer method). Launch iMovie, drag the MOV or MP4 file to iMovie’s capture area…
