Can all camcorders burn the date and time on video?
I am trying to find an ideal HD camcorder for private investigating. The requirements are compact size, large optical zoom and has the ability to record the date and time on the video. I am helping a firm go to a tapeless HD workflow and need to know if all camcorders have the ability to record the date and time on the video. This may seem like an entry level question but I have tried a couple of new Sony HD camcorders and cannot find the option in the menu.
camcorders do have a clock, and that is used to record the file creation date and time that is a part of every computer file. this is not the same as burned into the active video, it is like closed caption instead of subtitles. if you go with true professional HDV gear, they allow you to set the timecode track with time-of-day and date, which is a kind of metadata that is permanently part of the tape. so perhaps you should stick with tape based solutions.
