Personally, I would go for the Sony. Its a very nice camcorder with lots of internal memory (120gb) and very nice video. HV30 has good video too. It really comes down if you prefer HDD or tape. Tape can be recovered if you break the camcorder. If you break HDD camcorder, you probably won’t but you just need to be careful. Also The Sony comes not only with HDD but also with a Memory Pro duo stick slot, so you can use memory stick also. They are both nice camcorders so what ever you choose you will be very Happy!!!!!!!!!!
BUT PLEASE, dont buy from high street stores. Even Dixons online SR12 sells it nearly £200 cheaper than currys, jessops, etc.
