How many MBps is HD video?
I have read that it is around 25 MBps is this true?
I ask because i see many of the HD camcorders being sold by Sony and the like they have around 120GB hard drives.
To my understanding this is a max film time of 80 minutes?
I plan to film tennis where games easily go to 120 minutes.

It can be a really wide variety of data rates. Let’s refer to “megabits” as Mbit and “megabytes” as “MB.” That’s the confusion here. 25 Mbps is 25 megaBITS per second, but there are 8 bits in a byte, so 25 Mbits/sec is about 3 MB/sec.
For example, HDV, which is about 25 Mbit/sec (about 3 MB/sec), is about 10-13 GB/hr, depending on resolution.
By contrast, uncompressed 10-bit 1080p HD is over 600 GB/hr.
Some of the lower-end hard drive and flash memory camcorders use heavier compression, sacrificing some quality for file size. You might see data rates near 10 Mbit/sec.
Those 120 GB drives might hold 10 or so hours of video if the data rate is close to that of HDV. Some of these newer drive or card cameras do have those rates. Therefore, that 120GB drive should easily work for you.
