Sony Camcorders Xr100
if you were to buy a HDD camcorder, which one you’ll buy? Sony DCR-SR47 or Sony HDR-XR100?
i’m trying to choose between these two camcorders.. i dont know w/c one to pick. whether i’ll go with HD or a regular one that also has good features.. which one is better? tnx!
I would not bother with a consumer grade camcorder with an internal HDD. There are known problems and challenges with high altitude, vibration and data recovery when the camera fails.
Flash memory saves to the same file formats – Canon FS series for standard definition; Canon HF or HF S series for AVCHD/MTS high definition or Sony HDR-CX100 at the low end for AVCHD/MTS or HDR-CX500 series for the higher end.
But can your computer RAM, CPU, and available hard drive space deal with converting or decompressing the video any of these camcorders stores? We have no way to know.
Sin digital video compression means discarding video data, that translates into reduced video quality. If you are concerned about video quality – and if you are planning any fast action video capture, then you need to saty away from the high compression applied to the HDD and flahs memory MPEG2 or AVCHD/MTS files…
Least amount of video compression is DV and HDV – and in the consumer grade area, that currently points to the Canon HV40. And it also has a mic jack and manual audio controls. Because it is miniDV tape, that means your computer needs a firewire port. If your computer has no firewire port and no available expansion slot to add one, then you should stick with flash memory.
