Sony Camcorders Handycam Camcorder
Is my Sony Handycam compatible with a firewire for Final Cut Pro 7?
I am taking a Video editing class where we will be using a firewire to connect to Mac computers and editing video footage with Final Cut Pro 7. I am completely new to the video world, so I barely know what a firewire is. I have a Sony Handycam DCR-DVD201 camcorder. It uses the little DVDs (as opposed to DV tapes like the camcorders my school is offering to loan out). My question is do I need to borrow a camcorder from school? Or will my Handycam connect to the Mac via a firewire to edit my footage on Final Cut Pro 7?
The Sony DCR-DVD201 does not use/have FireWire connection. When using camcorders that record video on DVD’s, you’ll need to rip (extract) the video files from the finalized disks. The video may be on the disk in VOB container format (Video Object) or in VRO containers. VRO file is an equivalent to a collection of DVD-Video VOB files. Fragmented VRO files are not widely supported by hardware or software players and video editing software. So check with FC pro and see if it supports VOB or VRO files. If not, use a ripping program and then you can work with the video in FC Pro.
