Sony Avchd Camcorders

Is Sony HDR-SR7 a good choice of a camcorder?
Well, I want to get a good camcorder and I am new at camcorders because my parents had an old one that just broke. I am looking into Sony HDR-SR7 but my biggest concern is the AVCHD format and that its new, not really compatable with many programs.
I am not that into editing programs but I want to know if Sony HDR-SR7 is a good camcorder?
I read cnet.com but i am still not sure.

Other than the problems with editing AVCHD, owners seem to be otherwise happy with the video performance. Also checkout the detailed review of the HDR-CX7 (which has basically the same spec as the HDR-SR7, except that it records to memory cards instead of to a hard disk drive):
