Differences between the Sony HD1000U and HDR-FX7 Camcorders?
Besides the fact that the HD1000U is a shoulder mount, what are the biggest differences between the two? Is one much better than the other? I see that the HD1000U comes with a shotgun mic, but does it also have a mini jack where you can connect an XLR to mini-jack cable like the HDR-FX7 does?
The Sony HDR-FX7 is like many of the more compact camcorders and tend to more preferred than a boxy shoulder mounted cam with the same features. You should use the viewfinder when recording which allows for more precise focus, etc. And the Sony HD1000U was designed with that in mind. But since it is so basic, the off-set viewfinder isn’t as important for what you get. Users of pro-sumer cams like light weight and compact cams which are more versatile, easy to carry for long periods of time. You would be better off getting the HDR-FX7. It has a stereo mini mic jack but you can always get an XLR adapter if needed.
