How do you get an 80s video effect?

Hello there,
I am a great fan of the old videos of the 80s, and I would like to reproduce the effect with my own digital camera. To get a picture of the effect I am looking for, just look at the following video (especially the first few minutes):

Yes, Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeroes are awesome….but moving on.
This is the camera that I have:

Yes, I know it’s cheap, but it’s what I’ve got.
So does anyone have any advice on how to get that “Polaroid-ish” look (without actually buying a vintage camera and film)?
One more thing, I don’t have any money to spend on fancy editing tools, so any and all post production editing would be done on free video editing software (sorry, I’m very cheap).

Serious answers only please,

Thanks

I don’t think it’s video, it looks like it’s been taken on super 8 film.

If you wanted to achieve it with a digital video camera like yours, you’d have to apply that effect in video editing software. Alternatively you could by an old super 8 camera and buy some film for it – I believe you can still buy it http://motion.kodak.com/US/en/motion/Products/Production/Spotlight_on_Super_8/index.htm

Considering the price of video editing software (Adobe Aftereffects CS5 is $999) which would be able to emulate the effect, you might be cheaper just buying a super 8 camera and film, then get someone to convert it to video – and you’ll still have change left.
