Sony is the leader in video cameras. Canon is better known for its still cameras and lenses (both video and photo lenses).
Whether or not a camera uses a SD card has nothing to do with whether it’s “professional” or not. A camera is professional when someone is using it to make money; otherwise it’s not.
However, memory-card cameras do have some limitations, especially for visual material that includes a lot of motion. Using tape might be a better option in this case.
