35mm cameras, Do you think they might have antique value some day?
I don’t think my fancy digital can ever take as good photos as my old canon EOS 500N or my Olympus mju compact but do you think if I keep them in good condition they might have some antique value one day say in 20 years or so?
people will always collect stuff, and theres hundreds of thousands of photographers worldwide, so if only half a percent fancy an old camera, theres a big market out there.
quality cameras will always sell. how much they sell for is another matter. and certain cameras hold their value… if it cost 13 shillings and sixpence, you might get a couple of quid for it. and you might not.
andm because of the digitisation of our media, my working cameras are virtually redundant… virtually..sadly theyre worth more keeping them in their case and not flogging them. i owe my Om’s a lot, they fed 4 kids, and two wives and kept a roof over our heads for 20 odd years..so they paid for themselves many many times over… and even though my Om1n is getting on for 35 years old, it still works as it did the day i took it out the box. as do my Om2′s and Om4ti.. will my E series last as long… i doubt it.. but in the lifetime of my Om1n, its had maybe 10 thousand shots… in 35 years…
my E500 has 30 thousand shot on it, in 3 years… its a good camera…. as is teh E510 i replaced it with…
photographers like to feel a camera, activate teh crank and twist the lens and fire it, listening to the cogs whirr and the shutter click clack… so yes, maybe in 30 years time, these ancient 35mm cameras will find a niche’.. and maybe well all just chuck em away…
