Mini Camcorders High Definition
does an hv camcorder use mini dv tapes ? and can you put it on your computer and keep high definition?
I am trying to see which is better, a digital camcorder that uses flash or those HV camcorders that I’ve been hearing about ….I heard the video quality is much better is that true? and if so, can you reuse tapes as you would a flash drive? like put it on your pc and then erase or re – record over it.. (I am just tired of running out to get tapes all the time 
)
miniDV tapes are great because they can be captured live via IEEE 1394 interface (FireWire) connection right into an editing program such as Adobe Premiere Element, Sony Vegas Studio, etc as .avi which is great for editing opposed to, say .mpeg. The drawback to tape based cameras is the size. Manufactures are having a field-day selling very small HD camcorders that are not much bigger than a pack of cigarettes!
Whatever the camera records to and transferred onto a computer will remain its original format until it’s put on a DVD, YouTube, etc.
Editing some formats such as AVCHD (Blu-ray) and H.264 require a computer system that is souped up because the full HD authoring requires lots of memory and processing resources it can be a nightmare.
If you reuse tapes, the only thing that may/will happen over time is dropouts will become greater due to wear and stretch mainly, causing the error correction to work harder. Eventually you will get uncorrectable errors and the result will most likely be “blocking”, artifacts seen as small blocks of colour, often green or purple/pink.
