Question about difference in dvd handycam and digital camcorder.?
I’m deciding if I want to purchase a sony dvd handycam which records directly to the mini dvds, or a digital camcorder, which records to memory. I’m hoping someone can answer a question. On the mini dvd most of them say it only records 30 minutes in sp and 60 minutes in lp, is there a big difference in the picture quality? The digital camcorders can record much more time on the memory, but it seems difficult to transfer that to a dvd once recorded. Does anyone have experience with both of these and can recommend which option is better?
DVD data rate is only 6 mbps for standard quality, such as pre-recorded hollywood movies. Memory cards can match that rate, and some memory card cameras go much higher. Conversion is not that hard, and then you can put 2 hours of SP on a normal size DVD. miniDVD was bridge technology at a time when memory card recording was not an option, now it is basically obsolete.
