mini dv camcorders with sd card slot
there are many oif them on the internet
well, i’ve read that you can take a picture and then save it on the sd card in it as you can do eg with JVC GR-DF460
good, but can you also save the videos you record on the sd card or is it just mini dv that you can record on?
is it like that with most of camcorders – even if it has a sd slot, it will only record on mini dv?
and btw, the camcorders with usb connection, but recording on mini dv, can you actually download the videos from the mini dv to computer and then edit them with appropriate software?
if not, what is the usb connection for?

for most miniDV cameras, the USB is to allow computer access to the SD card (jpeg files) and is not for transfer of video. “frirewire” transfer of video is part of the miniDV standards that all manufacturers must adhere to. Sony’s bastard product, Digital 8, does not have to meet miniDV standards, and they have some camcorder models that transfer video with USB, but that is considered to be “webcam” quality.
the “hybid” cameras can put video on both SD card and another media, either HDD or miniDVD. The hybrid option makes sense for these types because the camera has to process video as compressed files anyway.
