A big hard drive camcorder?
JVC and Sony have great hard drive camcorders, but they are small and shake a bit when filming…. are there any Hard Drive cameras that are big? (with input and output options)
Big – with input and output options… so like a pro camcorder but not?
The BEST you can do is to use a miniDV tape based prosumer or pro camcorder and use an external drive from FireStore (Focus Enhancements). The pros are smart enough not to use an internal hard drive bsed camcorder because of the altitude and vibration problems all HDD cams have. And they know enough not to rely on extemley highy compressed MPEG2 or AVCHD – and regularly opt for DV/HDV to their external firewire-connected hard drives. They also know enough to never shoot handheld and alsways use some sort of steadying device – which eliminates shake when capturing video.
The only other pro-grade camcorder to use a hard drive would be one from Red. And even then, use in a high vibration or high altitude environment will render it useless just like the consumer HDD cams.
