Video camera to computer..?
Okay so i need some help. i have two video cameras, one is extremely old. it still uses 8mm video cassette tape. one is newer, it’s hybrid, like most camcorders today its able to upload straight to a computer through firewire and it has a miniDV tape too. PROBLEM: i need to upload these tapes to my computer, one that does not have firewire, only usb. I heard there are “digitizers” that can upload raw videos without compression, so you can edit them on programs like windows movie maker. Well i need to A) learn about these things, B) find the one that can work with my computer and BOTH my cameras if possible. and C) i need one thats affordable. but really guys is this even a ligit method?? i’m smart with vidcameras but not these converter things, i need some serious help guys. anything you can tell me would be great!! i’m desperate!!
The models of you cameras would have been helpful.
if your older camcorder is not digital, then you need to get a analogue to digital converter, they are not that expensive, allowing you to get your video onto your computer. Plextor and pinnackle make them.
If your newer camcorder has a av through then you can plug your older camera into it and record through the newer camera (some models have them)
With out compression I doubt it, that will be about 1.4gb per minute, Avi is about 1gb per 5 min’s. I think most will convert your video into MPG as a USB port will not be able to keep up with the data transfer rate Mini dv 25mbps (ISH)
