How Hd Camcorders Work
What do I *need* to own a HD camcorder?
My family and I have decided to buy a HD instead of a SD camcorder, so we don’t have to keep upgrading.
The problem is, we don’t have a HDTV. So, would the HD videos work if we bought a HD set top box for our TV?
Can regular editing programs such as Windows Movie Maker (I’m just a beginner! ) handle HD formats? Do HD camcorders have the option to shoot in standard definition too?
How is battery life? Does it take 4GBs to shoot only 1 hour?
Is it worth spending money on extras just to get a HD camcorder? If not, should I get a SD camcorder?
If you do have a HD camcorder, which is it and how much?
Sorry for all the questions, if you’ve got an answer to one, please respond. Help would be greatly appreciated!
1 – No such thing as a HD set top box. I am guessing you mean digital to analog converter box. You don’t need it. HD cams work with any TV with a composite input.
2 – Windows Movie Maker does not support AVCHD files. Try Super Loiloscope or Cyberlink PowerDirector. They are cheap and the only companies supporting AVCHD GPU.
3 – Generally about 1GB/hour. but it depends on the settings and how rapidly the scenes change.
4 – Battery life is about 1 to 2 hours on standard battery and 6 hours or so on high capacity. Depends on brand.
5 – SDs are almost obsolete. Its like the record player.
Conclusion:
HD camcorders are now very cheap. A good one can be bought for under $500.
