?Picture quality difference between camcorder that stores videos to memory stick or MiniDV?

I am debating between a Sony HDR-CX7 and a Sony MiniDV. I have been given conflicting information at electronic stores about the picture quality between the two. Both are HD camcorders. When I sit down to view my videos, which one would give me the best picture quality?

Well, really Mini DV is best. Mini DV is not just the winner on picture quality. In fact on many camcorders the picture quality is pretty much the same, however on the memory stick it still has to be compressed more. Compression can hurt the quality of video a lot of times because when you have to compress the data on the fly it doesn’t always turn out good. However, I have read several good reviews about the technology that Sony uses to compress. The only problem with it is it makes it so you can only edit it in the software Sony will sell you. A free or generic editor like windows movie maker wont work with memory stick or sometimes even hard drive footage. Really Mini DV is best because it allows you to record for longer, tapes are a lot cheaper then memory sticks, you can save the footage on the tape for a long time and tapes unlike memory are cheep enough to only use once, and also you can import the footage into almost any editor. With the HDR-CX7 being a newer camera and memory stick recording still in its early stages, I would just stick with the proven tape technology. While, you probably won’t be able to see much of a quality differance between the 2 ( they are generally the same) mini DV is cheeper and easier to edit with.
