What is the best HD camcorder?
I am buying a new HD camcorder soon. I have chosen 2 camcorders, the Canon Vixia HG20 and the Sanyo Xacti FH1. I love how the Canon Vixia has 60GB of hard drive space, but I like how the Sanyo Xacti is $100 less. I would like to know which camera has the better video quality too. So which one is better?
Also, if you have any suggestions for the best HD camcorder under $600, feel free to suggest! Thanks!
I would suggest you look at the Canon HV30 or HV40 – they have a mic jack and manual audio control (the HG20 and FH1 have a 1/8″ stereo mic jack – neither have manual audio control).
The HV30 and HV40 save HDV to miniDV tape – fill a tate, take it out, put in a new blank tape. What are you planning to do when you fill the hard drive? What video editor are you planning to use to read or edit your AVCHD compressed video from hard disc drive or flash memory camcorders? If your camcorder breaks or is stolen and you have not yet transferred the video from the hard drive, what are you planning to do?
If your computer has no firewire port (required for miniDV tape based camcorders), at least go to flash memory (like the Canon HF series). The HDD cams just are not worth it.
