Hard Drive Based Camcorders
Camcorders: MiniDVD or HardDrive?Need guidance!?
I have zero experience with camcorders and am about to buy one for just simple family use, nothing fancy. As far as I have noticed there are three different types of camcorders available: MiniDV, Mini DVD, and Hard Drive based. I kind of dismissed Mini DV right away because to me tapes seem to be too last century and perhaps inferior in qulity to DVD or HardDrive. Basically I just need to hear pros and cons from people who have experience with camcorders. Thanks!
You really don’t have any experience with cameras…Minidvd is the worst quality of the three because of the compressor the system uses…hard drive and mini dv are a tie in quality…unless you get a high def hard drive cam…but hard drives use a usb cable and be a hassle to capture whereas minidv cameras with a firewire port are easy to transfer and are just of good a quality…tapes may seem outdated but in truth they are just as good if not better then the other two…i use a jvc with a 34x zoom mini dv camera…it has excellent quality you don’t have to worry about corrupt or deleted/formatted files and it’s a lot cheaper then hard drive or mini dvd
