Advice on Camcorders?
What would be the best camcorder for me;
Pertinent Info;
Good quailty and picture
Preferable large LCD
Great picture at night
Will be using for special gatherings with family and want a quailty camcorder to record all of our memories
One that I can carry around at all times
Please advice…. preferably at a great deal
I dont know very much about camcorders but Im assuming some might have higher light power at night…
Since you did not tell us your budget, it is difficult… but you need to know that there is no such thing as a consumer camcorder that will produce a “Great picture at night”. Consumer camcorders lenses and imaging chips are too small to behave well in low light environments. Or, you can turn on the lights… or use a video light.
You should also know that you should NEVER shoot video just handheld – always use a steadying device with the camcorder. This can be a tripod, desk, chair… whatever – just not handheld.
And… it would be helpful to know what you plan to do after the video is captured. Are you planning to edit? What happens when whatever storage media you choose is full? What are you planning to edit with? Will the video format captured by the camcorder you select work with the editor?
All that said, I would suggest you start your investigation at the mid-range for consumer cams… The Canon HV30 or Sony HDR-HC9. Canon and Sony also make a few flash memory camcorders that are worth a look. Hard drive cams have know issues with vibration and altitude, so they fall off the short list unless there is a specific reason they need to stay. And DVD based camcorders have such poor video quality that they don’t even make the short list.
