How important is a wind filter in a camcorder?

I am shopping for camcorders and I found a good model, the Sony HDR-Sr11 but i has no wind filter. I want to shoot some short movies with friends and was wondering how important the wind filter is. Also I hear it isnt true 1080p. can anyone clear this for me? Also so you think the Canon HG 10 or Canon HF 100 is a better buy? These 3 are the ones i am thinking about but now i am leaning toward the Sony. advice?

The best wind filter is a physical one. The one in the camera menu is an electronic one. The electronic filters cut wind noise by eliminating all sound above a certain frequency, and this may eliminate the sound you are trying to record.

Also, wind filters are only required if filming outside in moderate to heavy wind. If you are recording inside, they are not needed unless you are recording next to a windy fan or vent.
