Dvd Camcorders Recorders
I would like some advice on purchasing a camcorder?
I’ve been looking at camcorders and te selection is overwhelming! What’s the diff between optical zoom and digital zoom? Are the mini dv cassettes any good or should I get the dvd recorders? Help!
Optical zoom is the actual zoom of the lense of the camera. Digital zoom is the camera enhancing the image digitally. I would look for a camera with lots of optical zoom. Every camera no a days has tons of digital zoom. In terms of the media, I was never a fan of the DVD cameras. They are great if you want to record, and then pop in the player, but the discs are expensive and don’t hold much time. I like the mini dv better, and thats what I own. You can always record to DVD using a computer, and a mini DVD will hold 60-90 mins. At standard quality on a dvd camera, you have 30mins. Or if its double sided you can get 60mins but you have to turn the dvd over yourself. The selection is huge, I can understand you being overwhelmed.. Also, they are more expensive, but if you plan on editing using a computer anyway, you might check out the newer cameras that have hard drives in them. Those have my attention. you don’t have to carry tapes with you, and that has the ability to save money in the long run. With these out, the dvd-cameras will fade.
