SLR Digital Cameras under $1,000?

I’m looking for a SLR camera under $1,000.
particularly, i am looking for a camera with at least 12 megapixels
and for the rest, i have no idea what i’m doing.
i prefer it be a Cannon or a Nikon from this site:
