Question About SLR Cameras?

does anyone know a model of digital slr camera that has image stabilization, dust control(self cleaning), AND enhanced dynamic range(or extended dynamic range).

i know the Pentax K20D does but i am looking for a nikon, sony, or canon….

if anyone could find a model for me that has all three of those AND live view, that would be GREAT…

and price range cannot exceed $1100 please

Sony A320 have image stabilization in the camera body. Don’t know if it has sensor cleaning built in.

Nikon D90 and D5000 have sensor cleaning (rattles the sensor) and Active-D lighting which will flatten the contrast in difficult lighting situations (bright and dark areas in the scene). This is about as close as you can get to enhanced dynamic range. The camera companies are doing a good job at making the apparent dynamic range look wider, but they are up against the limit of physics for signal to noise for true dynamic range. Image stabilization is done in the lens and is called VR in the Nikon world. Both these cameras use 12-bits per color. You can enjoy 12-bits per color only in raw mode. Something that Nikon doesn’t speak about in their adverts is chromatic aberration (LCA) correction. It’s pretty amazing how well it works.

Canon 40D has sensor cleaning. It also sports 14-bits per color. That doesn’t give you more dynamic range, but it does give smoother transitions in the color space if you’re shooting raw and a bit more leeway if you need to heavily edit an image in raw mode. JPEG format only support 8-bits per color for any camera. Canon also has the image stabilization (IS) in the lens.

BTW, live view has its place in studio shooting and when you’re trying to shoot things with the camera held over you head. In normal shooting, it’s much better to use the view finder as you will be able to hold the camera steadier. A DSLR is much heavier than a little point & shoot which makes holding it steady at arms length difficult and tiring. You’ll also find that it is generally easier to compose your shot using the view finder. Don’t let live view temper your camera decision unless you really need it.

I suggest going to any of the camera review web sites and looking at the prospective lineup of cameras. Each camera has pluses and minuses, some which may tickle your fancy. Either way, they all work extremely well.
