Digital SLR Camera impact?

does anyone know any history or what impact these cameras had on the development of photography?

SLR’s were introduced in the 1936 by Kodak but were slow to be accepted by professional editorial photographers because of their bulk when compared to the miniature 35 mm rangefinder camera used by them (predominately Leica, but Nikon sold many as well).

The rest of the world was still using the 4×5 speed graphic as the chief “press” camera (another rangefinder) while 35 mm rangefinders were being used on gritty assignments like wars and others that made using a 4×5 camera problematic.

Many of the first SLR’s that were available had viewing systems similar to those found on medium twin-lens reflex cameras as pentaprisms had yet to be fully developed or accepted buy manufacturers.

The first successful pro SLR was the Nikon F … which was introduced in 1959 and in 1962 a meter was introduced that replaced the “pentaprism only” configuration, but did not meter through the lens … still awkward to use, but its advantages (no parallax) and affordability (when compared to the Leica M3) and the eventual availability of lenses longer than 135 mm made SLR’s more and more popular. It was during the Vietnam War that the SLR came to the forefront as the choice of photojournalists

The rest is history … many SLR’s were introduced in the first ten or so years after 1960 … many like the Canon “Pellix” were revolutionary using a mirror that did not have to move out of the way, but while as quiet as a rangefinder camera, suffered because they could not use a polarizing filter.
