Digital Micro Camcorders
Why do so many digital cameras & camcorders have no windscreens on their microphones?
Surely they can engineer a micro wind-blocker so videos don’t sound so choppy in the slightest breeze? Just walking at a regular pace can create chuffing sounds.
I suppose you could stick a small piece of foam over the mic, but it wouldn’t look so good and might get pulled off during use.

That’s a good point, but most people don’t want to hassle with external mics for spontaneous stuff or hiking, etc.
I just don’t understand why they can’t have mesh wind-blockers covering the microphone pits. Anything would be better than what comes with most devices.
The same applies to digital voice recorders like a high-end Olympus model I have, which is supposed to be all about getting good sound.
That is one of the reasons many of us don’t depend on the on-board camcorder mic. Plus the audio doesn’t sound great anyway. Yep, you can add a small piece of loose foam or feathery material over it and that will help some. There is a company that makes a strap-on wind shield for most small hand-held cams (search google). But better yet, use a good quality external mic if your cam has a mic jack and get a windshield for the mic. But the best way to record great audio is to use a separate field recorder with a good quality mic.
