Hi Lilly:
The short answer is that infrared travels at the speed of light, just like any light beam.
If you need the precise measurement in microseconds, you’ll have to do the math yourself (’cause then it sounds too much like homework!). Just be sure to double the 6-meters to 12, since the IR beam has to travel back to the camera’s sensor.
But how FAST the autofocus mechanism reacts to the IR beam is another story entirely, and depends on the camera model. It can take a full second or more for the “give & take” of focus motor and “best focus” sensor feedback loop to home-in on the final setting.
