Is it possible to repair a broken screen on a Pentax Optio A40 digital camera?
My boyfriend has somehow managed to put a hairline crack in the screen but it’s touched the bit below that actually shows the pictures so the display doesn’t work. I can still take pictures but I can only see them once I’ve uploaded them to the laptop.
The crack runs all the way across the screen horizontally and on the screen underneath there are dark marks around where the crack is. As I said everything else is working fine.
Is there any way to repair this? If so, how much would it cost and do you know any places where this could be done around Merseyside or Greater Manchester, or somewhere with a mail service.

Short answer: No.
Long answer: Well, kinda. Here’s the thing: We’re talking about a sub £140 compact from 2007. Repair for a camera like this would approach the cost of simply buying a new one, which doesn’t make sense to a lot of people. The question is analogous to deciding whether to put a broken egg back together. (The inherent and perhaps immeasurable sentimental value of your current egg notwithstanding, of course.)

Digicams are getting better every year. It’s 2009, sister. Look at this as your liberation. Embrace it.

Stick to your guns. It still takes pictures, right? Put your faith in the machine. Pretend it’s a film camera.
