Digital Cameras Purpose
Could you please suggest me what are the specifications I should investigate before I purchase digital camera?
I would like to purchase a (economy) digital camera for home purpose but I don’t have any knowledge with regards to the specifications what is should investigate before I purchase… and also could you please suggest me the brand name also.. which would yields a best picture…
As for brands, stick with Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus, Panasonic, Casio and Fuji.
When comparing cameras, do compare cameras that is within the same price range. No use comparing a $100 camera with a $300 one.
Things to look out for:
1. Megapixels. More does not mean better. Unless you print poster size or larger, 7MP is more than enough. If I take the same picture with a 7MP, an 8MP, a 10MP and a 12MP camera and placed the 4R sized prints side by side, I would dare say no one would be able to tell which print came from which camera just based on the resolution of the print.
2. Optical zoom range. Usually between 3x and 5x. Test and see which fits you better.
3. Picture quality. This is very subjective. Suggest that you try to take pictures with all the cameras that you have shortlisted and view them on a PC. Decide which picture you like best and then select the camera. Some cam gives a warmer tone to pictures. Some gives higher contrast. Some give colours that are more vivid but all these are personal preferences.
4. Battery. Does it use AA or its own rechargable battery? Do you mind using AA? If you don’t then it is not an issue but if you like to take lots and lots of pictures, it is advisable to go for one that has a rechargable battery.
5. The feel of the unit in your hands. Can you comfortably hold it in your hands and operate it with relative ease? It doesn’t matter if it is the most stylish and slim model out there if you don’t feel comfortable holding it. If you don’t like to hold it chances are you won’t be using it much.
