Why won’t my camera focus?

I have a Polaroid t1031 camera. Pretty much just a digital camera. I’ve had it since march of 2010, so about a year and three months or something. Anyway, it’s being doing weird things, as of today. Such as, none of the buttons would work if i was on camera mode, but if i took out the battery and went to view pictures, the buttons were fine but AS SOON as i switched to take a picture, it wouldn’t work. And after turning it off and on a few times it worked. And now it won’t focus. everything else works it just is extremely blurry. I can’t think of anytime i have dropped it. But, i have been on the west coast taking pictures a lot this past week, and it was in my bag. so the only thing i can think of is the sand getting in there? Can someone just help me figure out how to get this to focus? thanks!
i will try charging it! thanks :)

Sand will do strange things to electronics and it can slowly deteriorate the equipment. The best tool to have is of course Dust-off and a little gentle brush for camera cleansing.
Shoot air and remove any sand or dust stuck in all the camera traps and openings and on the battery connectors.
Your battery seems loose try to see if it is.
Or it lost its charge which is the most likely problem here. Focusing or zooming takes most of the battery juice and it seems to be affected here on these tasks (at least focusing). Do you have the same problem plugging it to the wall?
