Digital Cameras Multiple Lenses
how do I shop for a camera filter?
ok, so I want to buy an infrared filter for my husband (the serious amateur digital photographer) can use on multiple lenses, as a christmas gift. I don’t know anything about photography. Can someone out there teach me how to shop for filters (something to do with lens sizes in mm)? Or am I in completely over my head? Assume I can sneak into his camera equipment and read markings on lenses…

Make a list of all the diameters of lenses your hubby owns. Then go to a camera shop and ask for Cokin filter kits. The Cokin filter system actually attaches a filter holder at the end of the lens which will allow you to easily use several filters. Furthermore, you can buy several sizes of adaptors so that you can use the filter system for all the lenses.
This is better than buying one filter for a specific size of lens. Check out the website of cokin.fr for the “P” series of filters.
