Which digital camera (not SLR) would be the best for night snapshot with the least noise and the image is of highest quality..with image stabilizer and widescreen snapshot..
I am now currently using canon ixus 65 which snap an extremely poor night mode images.. even in a room with lights also.. the sensitivity of the lens is not good.
One important feature to look for in a digital camera if you’re looking to reduce noise is the physical sensor size. See Link 1 for information about sensor sizes. To summarize, given sensor 1, which is smaller in size than sensor 2, if you place the same number of megapixels on those two sensors, the size of each individual pixel will be larger on sensor 2. As a result of this, because pixels aren’t crammed together so closely, grain will be much less evident in photos at higher ISO levels. This is why digital SLR cameras outperform most point and shoots, because they have a much larger sensor.
You haven’t listed a budget, but here are some cameras at some different price levels with some competitive sensor sizes with good high ISO performance. When looking at specifications, as sensor sizes get closer to 1/1″, the larger they are, so a 1/1.7″ sensor is larger than a 1/2.5″ sensor.
High end: Canon G9 ($460, Link 2): 1/1.7″ 12.4 megapixel sensor, widescreen resolution available, 6x optical zoom with image stabilization. Even comes with a hotshoe for an external flash. You can also consider the predecessor model (G7) which you could find used for a cheaper price.
Mid level: Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX100 ($345, Link 3): 1/1.72″ 12.4 megapixel sensor, many widescreen options (4:3, 3:2, 16:9) available, 3.6x optical zoom with image stabilization.
Entry level: Fujifilm Finepix F40FD ($210, Link 4): 1/1.6″ 8.3 megapixel sensor, 3x optical zoom.
All of these cameras use the SD card your current camera uses as well.
