Insuring electronic equipment?
I live in the UK. I am about to buy about ₤2000 of new photo equipment but I want to extend the manufacturer’s warranty. I have a quote from Jessops but I have heard many bad stories about these in-store policies (e.g. the old Dixons used to charge a ton and often refused to pay out). Do you know any other place that would provide such insurance?
Also I have another digital camera, an iPod, two laptops, TV equipment etc…. all of it is outside the original warranty. Does anyone know a company that would insure all of it against breakdown at reasonable rates?

camera equipment is a bit different as it has a mechanical component.
But taking out extended insurance on electrical good is a waste of money.
Electrical goods use the old bath tub curve. In that most failure happen at the begging or end of their life cycle.
At the begging they fail due to bad workmanship etc. after a long time components fail.
So the manufacturers warrenty usually covers the period they are likely to fail. After that as electronic equipment is very reliable the failure rate drops off big time.
So if you imaginge the profile of a bath, the steep curve would be amount of failures over time. Then the curve flattens out, few failures then a steep curve again, lots of failures.
The extended warrenty is usually part of the flattened out curve.
