We all know that cell phones have tiny sensors and produce amazingly poor quality images
We also know that there are certain applications where film is still needed to record certain scientific data (UV and IR documentation are two used by scientific, industrial, medical and forensic photographers)
Sports photographers depend upon cameras like the Nikon D3s to provide nearly noiseless images when shooting football games under the lights or indoor basketball games at ISO 12,800 with about the same noise found on entry level dSLR’s at ISO 800. Film cannot compete in this arena. Colour film tops out at 800 ISO and black and white at 3200 ISO.
