Digital Cameras Burst Mode
A Camera with a good burst mode and clarity for shooting water?
I’m looking for a camera that will shoot those fast moving multiple images, with a good enough clarity to shoot water. It’s for a class and as you could probably guess trying to simulate things with water is really hard, especially if you have poor timing like I do.
I’ve found the Canon SD700 IS from looking at past questions. Would this be a good one to get for what I’m looking for? Note: I definitely want digital, and not too flashy…just a small or normal camera.

Talk to your instructor. What you really need is a fully adjustable camera, which the SD700 is NOT.
The cameras that can shoot continuously at high fps, cost from $5,000 and up. Why you need such a feature is beyond me. I shoot sports and rarely shot more than two shots in five seconds, so the fact that my camera can shoot up to 11 fps is of little use to me.
As far as fast shutter speeds, like 1/4000th or 1/8000th second, almost any DSLR can shoot in that range.
Shutter lag is your other problem if you try shooting your water with a SD700. Only DSLR’s have shutter lag measured in milliseconds.
Most of the “water shots”, the ones of drops landing in fluid and frozen in place are done using an electronic flash with the cameras shutter held open in a darkened room for the duration of each shot.
Again, talk to your instructor and have them help you with your camera choice. When I was in photo school, we used an electronic strobe, an infrared beam and a 4×5 view camera pre-focused at the point of the “splash”. I am sure your instructor is using a similar set up for your shots
