Digital Cameras Basics

Where online can I learn the basics about cameras?
I use a point and shoot camera, nothing fancy. The cameras with the long lenses that stick out and have many buttons confuse me. I want a fancier camera but am overwhelmed by the fancy ones with all the settings like shutter speed, and HDR pictures (I have no idea what that means though).
I think that there is a manual type which are older and the digital that are newer I think.
