Digital Camera not reading avi file?
I take videos ( .avi format) using pocket digital camera Canon SD1000, I download the file(s) on computer (Mac) all is ok, video plays fine. Just out of curiosity, when I do the reverse (upload same file to the same camera, same sd card), camera does not read the file, it just says “no image” as if the sd card is blank. Of course I format the sd card (4 gb) first before I try to upload the same file back to the camera. I upload via ImageBrowser or via drag and drop thru card reader, I double click on the sd card icon, I check if the files are there, the files are there. I put the sd card back to the camera, turn camera on, “no image”. Why? How do I get the camera to read and play the avi file? Please advise.
A camera is not a display device. It was never meant to be used the way that you are trying to use it. Where in the manual does it say that you can upload videos to your camera to view them? A camera is made to take an image, save it to a memory card and then upload the image to a device like a computer. Nothing else. If you keep trying to do what you are doing, you’ll either trash the memory card or the camera. Maybe both.
In technical terms, a camera cannot playback videos like you want because of the file allocation table that a camera’s firmware generates. Camera takes picture, camera stores picture, camera remembers where picture is located on the card via file allocation. Just loading a file onto the memory card is like you putting a book on a random shelf in a library and then asking the librarian where it is. The librarian won’t have a clue it’s there. A camera is not sophisticated enough to find files that it did not create itself.
