Digital Cameras At Target
Is there any ‘very’ easy to use digital camera, that I can buy for my parents?
I’ve checked the most basic consumer cameras from Canon, Kodak, Nikon, Samsung and Sony, and there doesn’t seem to be any really-easy-to-use digital camera targeted at population which was born before the dawn of the digital age (like my parents). I want to buy a camera which is easy to use, doesn’t overwhelm my parents with unnecessary buttons/controls/dials/features/settings/blah blah blah, has a large LCD, shoots good quality photos and video, and isn’t too fragile. Is there such a camera, which is priced decently?
I totally understand what you’re looking for. My mother is a technophobe in a big way, but she wanted a digital camera.
I bought her a little Canon Powershot because it has an auto setting (the mere word makes ME shudder, though), as well as manual ones just in case she should catch “the bug”.
She has been using it on and off for a couple of years now. I keep going over the buttons with her and keep pointing her to the user guide, but she still finds it hard.
However, she sometimes DOES manage to take a few reasonable photos, and she HAS learned a bit.
We need to remember to not treat them as if they were “old dogs” who can’t learn new tricks.
Spend some time, go over it together, and keep an electronic version of the user guide on your computer in case they phone you with a question.
The simpler the camera, the worse the results tend to be….. trust your parents to still have some smarts left in them
