Digital Cameras Aperture Settings

On a standerd digital camera could someone explain in detail,?
what the differant automatic settings actually do to the camera,
so for example what aperture and shutter speed would the camera set to on the “sport” or “landscape” mode?
You will have to have some basic photographic knowledge for this to be meaningful.
It’s a question of flash, aperture, and shutter speed settings. In landscape mode, where your subject may be a mountain, the flash will not be activated regardless of low light (flash range problem), so the camera will go to aperture-priority mode without a flash in low light.
In sports, its necessary to capture action, which would blur if the shutter were too slow. So in sports mode, the camera tries to get the shutter speed as fast as possible, most often by opening the aperure up all the way and choosing the fastest shutter speed (shutter-priority).
Know that the effect of opening up the aperture means that depth of field is compromised, which is actually a plus in portraiture (blurs the background, thus placing the focus on the subject)
Get a tripod. Once shutter speed falls below (slower) than 1/60s, camera shake from handholding will make a blurry picture. This problem is magnified if you use a telephoto setting. As a rule, the lowest shutter speed that can be handheld is the inverse of the focal length. That means for 50mm, 1/50s is the bottom limit of handheld. At 150mm (tele), the bottom limit is 1/150s.
I hope this helps, but I don’t know how much camera savvy you have. But, knowing some of these basic things will make your pictures much better. One final note: When taking a portrait in daylight, try to use a flash even if it is bright outdoors. This will act to fill in shadows on the subject. Try it and see.
