Digital Camera Reviews D7000
Nikon D7000 Kit or not?!?
This will be my first DSLR, and after million reviews, i decided to get the d7000. But I cant make up my mind in whats the best thing to do. Most of my shoots will be urban/ buildings, people. And also a lot of night shots, like stars… There is a kit that comes with it: Nikon D7000 DX-Format Digital SLR Camera Two-Lens VR Outfit (18-105 AF DX & 55-300mm VR f/4.5-5.6G) or Nikon D7000 DX-Format Digital SLR Camera Two-Lens VR Outfit (18-105 AF DX & 70-300mm VR f/4.5-5.6G) or Nikon D7000 DX-Format Digital SLR Camera Two-Lens VR Outfit (18-105 AF DX & 55-200mm VR f/4-5.6G)… Anyway or I was thinking maybe to buy just the body and get a different lens? I dont know much about the glass yet, im about to go to school so i can learn a things like that. But for now i dont know what to do, if you know the best thing i can get please let me know. THANK YOU
Forget the kit. Get the body only, and a 35mm f/1.8 DX separately. It’s normal perspective and shorter focal length (than the 50mm f/1.8, for example), gives it more depth of field, allowing you to shoot it wide open and have more depth of field. It is an excellent lens, and a super good deal for around $200. Not only is it cheaper than either of the kit options, but it’s all around a better piece of glass than both. If you want a zoom lens, save your money and get the 16-85mm DX VR, it’s about $600. I would not recommend either kit. Kits are designed to sell cameras. While you may think that a camera that comes with 2 lenses is a good deal, and you probably need 2 lenses, the truth is, it’s not a good deal because both lenses are crap (despite what Ken Rockwell says), nikon’s cheapest, and you probably DON’T need 2 lenses. They like you to think you need the whole goddamned focal spectrum in your camera bag but, you really don’t. I like to shoot the same sort of stuff you do, and I use my 35mm f/1.8 DX most of the time. And I also have a 16-85mm, so I’m not just telling you to go by this lens, or that lens. I’m telling you what works well for me. Take it for what it’s worth.
