I am looking to upgrade my current camcorder. I currently use the video function on a fujifilm finepix s9500 digital camera, its the same spec as most £100 digi camcorders. I want one that can film in dark, dim lit situations, maybe a light? i want to spend under £500. any recommendations?

In your current price range, the best camcorder for the money is the Panasonic PV-GS500. It has 3CCD optics, which translates to better image quality in general, and offers some of the best low light performance among similarly priced camcorders.
if you have additional lighting available when recording, it’s always better to use it than rely on the camera to record well in low light. A camera lens is similar to the human eye in that it needs more light in order to accurately process image information.
