Digital Camcorders Ccd
if digi cams use way larger CCD than camcorders, how come camcorders are usually more expensive?
for e.g. a basic digicam like olympus x-905 with 5x zoom and 10mp has a 1/2.3” CCD (large yeah?), and it costs around 140 dollars.
but a crappy panasonic camcorder SDR-SD50 with 1/8” CCD (crap enough yeah?) with just under 800,000 total pixels costs you 156 dollars ! (considering the 78x zoom is crap anyway, basically super zooms nowadays worth less than 5 dollars anyways…)
I thought CCD (the god damn charge coupled device) costs you a lotta money in a digital device???
Photo cameras use larger sensors to capture higher-resolution still images.
For video cameras, the highest TV resolution in current use is 1080p, which is 1920×1080 = 2.07 MP. You don’t need any more than that. Video cameras are about motion, not still resolution/detail. That’s why the sensors aren’t as large. In fact, the sensors in most multi-thousand-dollar 1080p camcorders are 2.07 MP sensors, so they’re not trying to cram more pixels into that space, which would result in each pixel getting less light.
