Compare Digital Cameras Panasonic
I am a camera ‘newbie’ so can some one who is a bit more experienced help me?
My dad bought a new digital camera and i noticed all my friends have a camera and i never really wanted one. But when i saw how good my dads camera was it amazed me, i feel the technology is now good enough for it to be worth me getting one. However, his cost 190 pounds, which is an alright amount of money, but if i can pay less, i would like to 
.
I went on comet and did some comparisons…
My dads camera the panasonic lumix DCM tz8 now reduced to 172 compared to the samsung es74 for 79 pounds.
I can see that they both have pretty similar features, the es74 has more megapixels but less zoom
but heres the bit im interested in… The image stabilisation : is optical image stabilasation better than digital image stabilisation, if so how? if not how? what do they both mean?

The Panasonic TZ8 is a well respected camera, offering a very useful zoom range, and effective image stabilisation.
Optical image stabilisation is far superior to the digital alternative. Optical stabilisation is lens based, and involves physically moving a lens element to compensate for camera movement. This is also known as mechanical stabilisation, and is superior as it does not involves changing any camera settings to the detriment of image quality.
This is as opposed to digital stabilisation, which is software based, and involves raising the ISO (the sensitivity of the sensor) to allow for higher shutter speeds. Higher shutter speeds decrease the chance of a photograph being blurred, but higher ISOs do have a negative effect on image quality. For pure image quality, you should always use the lowest ISO the available light conditions allow.
I would recommend the TZ8 over the ES74.
