Compare All Camcorders
mini camcorders quality vs HI8?
I have a broken Sony Hi8 Handycam Camcorder. sony charges me around $100 to fix it. I was thinking to spend that money in a mini camcorders like the flip or the kodak Zi6. How can I compare the quality of these minicamcordes to the quality of a hi8 handycam. I know I wont get all the features and no zoom at all. But I dont want to get a worst video quality than the Hi8 if I can use $100 to repair.
The weakness of the Hi8 system is chroma resolution, it is only 1/8 th the luma resolution. Most all digital cameras have at least 4:1:1 sampling so that the chroma resolution is no worse than 1/4 th the luma, so that is a guaranteed improvement. digital pictures are rock steady and don’t need conversion for computer downloading. the main reason for repairing a Hi8 camcorder would be if you need it to play back the old tapes.
