Canon Professional Hd Camcorders
Camcorders and megapixels..?
hi guys
can somebody explain to me one thing:
why the professional HD camcorders (e.g. Canon XH A1 and others) are having only 1.67 Mpix (if my onfo is right) – and on the other hand – smaller HD camcorders (low-end models) may have 3-5Mpix, and digital HD cameras, which take videos are having 10-14Mpix…?? I know what difference it makes at the photography, and also that the quality of a picture is more down to the size of a sensor and quality/size of the lens etc, but why those profesional camcorders have such a small number of MPix ? can somebody explain this whole subject – video & Mpix – to me? it doesnt matter how many pixels you have while shootin? (I know that minimum for HD is something like 2.1 Mpix…)
Thx…
Peter
NYC Fan THANK U! Great answer – now I understand pretty good:) and thx for the link!
Just to add to NYC, remember that cameras like the XH A1 have THREE of these 1.67mp sensors, each with a dedicated task to record. There are advancements, but in the market right now each little pixel can only record the band of light it is filtered for. Generically, in a square block of 4 pixels, one is filtered for red, one for blue, and two for green. Reds and blues can only be seen by 1/4 of the overall sensor.
In the Triple ccd cameras, any color can fill the screen without gaps. This also takes a bit more sophistication in re-combining the three into a single image. But this does allow the sensor to produce a superior image.
