Optical or Digital Zoom. What’s the difference?

I’m buying a camera for $219-260 and I need to know what the difference between Optical or Digital zoom is. The one I’m looking at has 10x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom.

Optical Zoom is when the lens actually zooms in. digital zoom is when the software in the camera actually just blows up the picture exactly like you can blow up a picture you are viewing on the computer. and just like that it also gets more and more ‘blocky’ as you zoom (with digital zoom). any digital camera with 3.2 megapixels or more will take just as goo of a picture at the 3×5 level. but if you want to blow your pictures up, 8x10s or something. than you want a digital camera with over 6 megapixels. than the pic will look less pixelated when you blow it up. as for zoom. the optical zoom is better. digital zoom cannot zoom in without sacrificing picture quality. if the camera has both. than the lens will zoom first and at it’s limit the digital zoom will kick in. when you zoom with the camera a bar will pop up on the LCD display to show how much of the total zoom you are using. there will be a mark on this bar. when you zoom past that mark, you will be now utilizing the digital zoom.
