Canon Consumer Camcorders
Best shoulder mount for consumer HD camcorder. (Canon Vixia HF S100)?
I want to know of a shoulder mount that will attach the camcorder securely above my shoulder right next to my neck. The ones I have seen are for big professional HD cameras and have the camera sticking out one foot in front. The camcorder I have weighs one pound and is just a centimeter more around than a soda can. I can turn the screen image facing out to where it doesn’t stick out (just like the LCD screen is closed but turned around). So if anyone knows of a product for camcorders like this I would like to know the name and your experience. Thank you.
the problem is the viewfinder. place your camcorder on your shoulder. now try and look at the LCD viewer while shooting. can’t be done. the viewer has to be about 12 inches away for the eye to be able to focus on it. palm type cameras have to be either held out from the body, or else shot waist level with the viewer facing up. larger pro cameras usually have a eyepiece type viewer for close watching which is high res CRT that allows the operator to see how sharp the manual focus is, something that can’t be done with an LCD viewer.
personally i like shooting waist level, thats how i learned 50 years ago. that is an easy position to keep the camera steady. most consumer cameras have image stabilization so shoulder mounting is not really needed for steady shots.
